May Reading Goals

After a month of seeing this classic gif:

It’s finally May! This means a new month of reading goals. My tbr (to-be-read) list is completely out of control, so I’m officially on a bookban (I mean it this time). I swear to not check out any more books from the library or buy anything from the bookstore/Amazon/library book sales.

No books for Sylvia!

Anyway, I have 3 books I’m hoping to finish this month. Here we go:

  1. Pride and Prejudice (Jane Austen)
    • Currently I’m on page 138 out of 334. I started this classic in late March and I’m inching my way through it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m really enjoying this book and it’s surprising humor, but there’s something about the writing that also makes me very sleepy. I usually only read 2 or 3 chapters at a time before nodding off. But I will finish this book by the end of May! I am determined!
  2. The Diviners (Libba Bray)
    • This was our selection for this month’s Book Buddies read. At 578 pages, the book is a little intimidating, but with my classes ending this week, I’m confident I can finish this book. I’ve read about 60 pages so far, and I’m loving the themes of the occult, psychics, and other supernatural elements. And it’s looking like there will be some great love interests, too. The Diviners is looking like a mix of everything I love. Plus, it takes place in the Roarin’ 20’s with flappers, prohibition, speakeasies, New York City, and people laughing off the thought of a major economic disaster….y’know, ’cause the stock market will never crash.

  3. A Conjuring of Light (V.E. Schwab)
    • I’m ready to get hurt again! I’ve been putting off reading this book even though A Gathering of Shadows had a brutal cliffhanger. I just don’t want this series to end! Schwab’s fantastic world-building and lovable, conflicted, unique characters make it too difficult to say goodbye to Dull London, Kell London, Creepy London, and Dead London. At 624 pages, this book feels like it’s too short. Truthfully, this is the book I’m worried about not finishing because I want to savor every word of it. I have no doubts this book will leave me in tears like the other two did. I think this time it will be worse, though.

So there you have it! 3 books for the month of May. Normally I would include more books, but these books are lengthy in their own right and between work, kickball, and my practicum, plus friends and family, I know my time is going to be limited.

I do have one other goal for the month of May:

I am going to see AVENGERS: INFINITY WARS.

I am narrowly avoiding spoilers at the moment. I also know this movie will make me cry. It looks like May is going to be a month of many tears.

What are you reading this month? Tell me about it!

Love, always,
