October Reflection & November TBR

October Reflection & November TBR

Wow, October flew by! I’m still trying to process the month – good and bad. Moving into November means the weather is going to get even colder (ugh), holidays are gonna be nonstop, and the sudden realization that the year is coming to an end and I need to reach my reading goal is going to come crashing down.

Yikes.

But let’s break this post down a little bit so it won’t be as big of a mess….

October:

  1. Life
  2. Work
  3. Books

November:

  1. Vacation
  2. It’s Too Early for Christmas Music
  3. Goals
  4. TBR

So…. October. October is fun because everything starts to change. The weather gets cooler, the leaves turn red, yellow, and orange, and brown. I’m a huge Halloween fan and love looking at different costumes and seeing trick or treaters. For the most part, October was a pretty good month. There were ups and downs, but that’s life, right? I’ve gotten settled in at my new place and I’ve really been enjoying it. It was weird the first few nights, but now it’s feeling like home.

As for work? I finally feel like I (kind of) know what I’m doing. I have a consistent story time group and my numbers are slowly going up for programming (yay!). The after school kids are more comfortable with me, which makes those programs so much easier! This month, I had my weekly story times, a few school visits, and a Monster Tea Party* for the elementary and middle schoolers.

*Monster Tea Party involved filling little cauldrons up with vinegar and food coloring, then adding baking soda to cause a reaction. The kids went crazy for it. Since this was my Halloween program, they got books to take home and keep as “treats”.

Finally, books! Despite being super busy this month, I’m pretty proud of how much reading I got done. My Archie comic hasn’t come in yet, so I wasn’t able to read that, but here’s what I did read:

  1. The Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennet. (review here ).
  2. The Evil We Love (Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy #5)
  3. The Supervillain and Me (review here ).
  4. Pale Kings and Princes (Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy #6)
  5. Bitter of Tongue (Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy #7)
  6. The Fiery Trial (Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy # 8)
  7. Sea Witch (REVIEW TO COME! I just finished this one on 31 October!)

I didn’t review any of the Shadowhunter Academy books. I might review the book as a whole, but I’m not sure. I did rate them on Goodreads though (https://www.goodreads.com/syl-reads) – feel free to add me as a friend!

Anyway, October was a pretty good month for books. I think The Supervillain and Me was my favorite read this past month, but Sea Witch was also pretty enjoyable.

Have you read any of these books? What did you think? 35795943

On to November!

Vacation, finally!

Kylie and I are heading South for a book festival, yay! Hopefully the weather will be pleasant (or at least not as cold as Ohio), and ideally we won’t get lost (but that’s wishful thinking). Either way, it’s gonna be a good time! It’s been too long since we’ve taken a trip together.

It’s not Christmas. This is my plea to stop premature Christmas music and decorating. Sorry I’m a bit of a grinch. I’m content getting into the holiday spirit after my birthday.

It’s entirely possible that I’m too old to be such a grinch about having a near Christmas birthday, but here we are. I’m not proud of this.

Goals. Guys, I just want to sleep for more than 4 hours. I’m exhausted. Not much in terms of goals, I guess. I want to sleep and exercise more. Maybe start volunteering? I’d love to get into dog fostering.

Last but definitely not least – November’s TBR!

  1. Notes From My Captivity (Kathy Parks)
    • I dunno. This one just looks interesting.
  2. Born to Endless Night (Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy #9) (Cassandra Clare)
  3. Angels Twice Descending (Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy #10) (Cassandra Clare)
  4. Archie, Volume 5. The Heart of Riverdale (Mark Waid)
    • The anxiety is real.
  5. ?????
    • I’m not sure what my fifth book should be. I’m open to suggestions!

And that’s all I have for you all today!

How was your October?

What do you have planned for November?

PS – I promise I’m reading everyone’s blogs! I’m just super behind. If I haven’t ‘liked’ or ‘commented’ in a while, don’t worry! I’ll be doing that soon. I was without WiFi for 2 weeks, so that put me crazy behind.

  1. It seems like you had tons of fun at the Monster Tea Party! I bet the kids loved seeing that reaction.

You read a good few books in October – are they short stories or full novels?

I hope you have a great vacation! And I agree with you on the Christmas music.
